Job Description

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you are responsible for leading the design and development of electrical systems and components within aerospace projects. You apply advanced engineering principles to produce detailed designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. You collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet technical, regulatory and operational demands.

Job Duties

  • Develop and produce detailed electrical design documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and system architecture.
  • Lead design reviews and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design teams.
  • Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant aerospace standards, safety regulations and quality assurance protocols.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments and failure mode analyses for electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, mechanical engineers and project managers to integrate electrical designs within overall project frameworks.
  • Support the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimations and project schedules.
  • Identify and implement design improvements to enhance system performance, reliability and maintainability.
  • Participate in testing and validation activities to verify design integrity and functionality.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends and best practises relevant to aerospace electrical engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Professional Engineering registration or working towards registration is desirable.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in aerospace engineering or related fields are advantageous but not essential.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in electrical design engineering within the aerospace or aviation sectors.
  • Proven experience producing complex electrical system designs and documentation.
  • Experience working on projects involving aircraft electrical systems, wiring harnesses and avionics is preferred.
  • Previous involvement in contract-based engineering roles is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace electrical standards and regulations, including electrical safety and certification requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in electrical design tools, such as CAD software and schematic capture applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience in mentoring junior team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Experience with software tools specific to aerospace electrical design and simulation.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and working within Agile or similar frameworks.
  • Understanding of mechanical and systems engineering principles to support multidisciplinary collaboration.

Working Conditions

  • Based primarily at the client’s site in Samlesbury, Lancashire, with standard full-time hours expected.
  • Occasional requirement to work additional hours to meet project deadlines.
  • Work involves use of computer-based design software and participation in design review meetings.
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations in an engineering and aerospace environment is mandatory.
  • Potential for limited travel to other sites or suppliers as required by project demands.
