Skilled Aircraft Fitter – A400M
Location: Filton, Bristol
Contract: 12 Months – Likely Extension / Potential Permanent Opportunity
Rate: £28.87 per hour Umbrella / £21.58 per hour PAYE
Hours: 35 hours per week
Shift: Monday–Thursday, 06:30–15:45
Overtime: +25% Monday–Friday / +50% Saturday–Sunday
Four Days a Week. Twelve Months of A400M Aircraft Build.
Morson Edge is looking for Skilled Aircraft Fitters to join an established aerospace manufacturing operation in Filton, supporting structural build and assembly on the A400M programme.
This is a 12-month contract with likely extension and the potential to become permanent, combined with a four-day working week and every Friday off.
You’ll work directly on aircraft structures, using engineering drawings and production instructions to carry out precision fitting, drilling, shimming and sealing activities to demanding aerospace standards.

The Role
As a Skilled Aircraft Fitter, you’ll support A400M aircraft build production, assembling aircraft structures and components in accordance with engineering drawings, technical instructions and approved production documentation.
The work is hands-on and precision focused, involving drilling, shimming, sealing and structural assembly using a variety of hand and power tools.
You’ll be expected to work independently where appropriate while also contributing to the wider aircraft production team.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out aircraft structural fitting and assembly
- Work from aircraft drawings and engineering instructions
- Complete drilling, shimming and sealing activities
- Use hand and power tools safely and accurately
- Assemble A400M aircraft structures and components
- Work to defined aerospace production and quality standards
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and workplace organisation
- Work at height and within confined spaces where required, including restricted wing access
- Complete relevant role-specific requirements and undertake first-party certification following successful completion of the applicable training
- Work both independently and as part of the wider production team
Who We’re Looking For
You don’t necessarily need to have spent your entire career building aircraft.
Relevant backgrounds can include:
- Aircraft Fitter / Aircraft Technician
- Sheet Metal Worker
- Mechanical Fitter
- Fitter / Turner
- Toolmaker
- Aircraft Maintenance Technician
Previous aerospace or aviation manufacturing experience is desirable, alongside experience in aircraft structural assembly, drilling, shimming or sealing.
Qualifications – Important
For this Skilled Aircraft Fitter route, you must have:
- A completed work-based or time-served engineering apprenticeship
- NVQ Level 2 and Level 3, or recognised equivalent engineering qualifications
Copies of your apprenticeship and qualification certificates will be required when you apply.
You’ll also need previous fitting or assembly experience, practical experience using hand tools and the ability to understand engineering drawings and instructions.
