Job Title: Crane Supervisor

Location: Bristol

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Crane Supervisor to oversee and coordinate all lifting operations on site. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring crane activities are planned, supervised, and executed safely and efficiently while complying with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all crane and lifting operations on site.
  • Ensure lifting activities are carried out in accordance with approved lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Conduct pre-lift briefings and toolbox talks with crane operators, riggers, slinger/signallers, and other personnel involved in lifting operations.
  • Verify that cranes, lifting accessories, and rigging equipment are suitable for the intended lift and have valid inspection and certification records.
  • Monitor ground conditions, crane setup, outrigger positioning, and exclusion zones before lifting operations commence.
  • Ensure effective communication between crane operators, riggers, and signallers throughout lifting activities.
  • Identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor weather and environmental conditions and suspend lifting operations when conditions become unsafe.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of lifting activities, inspections, permits, and incident reports.
  • Investigate and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance and support to lifting teams to promote safe working practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical qualification preferred).
  • Valid Crane Supervisor certification or equivalent industry-recognised qualification.
  • Relevant lifting operations certification (e.g., CPCS, NPORS, or equivalent, depending on location).
  • Thorough knowledge of lifting operations, crane safety, and applicable regulations.
  • First Aid and HSE certifications are an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of crane operations, lifting equipment, and rigging practices.
  • Ability to interpret lift plans, load charts, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily conducted on construction or industrial sites.
  • Requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • May involve shift work, overtime, weekends, and travel to different project locations.
  • Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
