By balancing capability, risk, and operational demand, the directorate provides assured force output and acts as the Fleet’s scheduling authority, ensuring the Royal Navy can deliver whenever and wherever required.

You will be based at RNAS Culdrose, a front-line Air Station delivering Squadrons and personnel for operations worldwide. Working in the SMEO department, which provides engineering support to RNAS Culdrose and associated ships. As an electrical fitter, you’ll be working on ground power support units (GPSUs) and hydraulic rigs along with associated aircraft support equipment to keep the Royal Navy flying.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. Requests to work flexibly and/or part time will be considered, taking into account business needs.

Job description

As an Electrical Fitter, you will be responsible for a range of duties including:

  • Carrying out the maintenance, testing, installation and repair of Air Support Equipment (ASE) in accordance with relevant Digital Air Publications and completing the relevant documentation.
  • Prioritising ships flight equipment due to fast turnaround requirements.
  • Maintenance, testing and repair of Functional Machinery (FM), IAW current regulations to ensure compliance with Military Air Authority regulations.
  • Installing/derigging temporary electrical supplies for local events such as STEM days and fireworks nights.
  • Delivering instruction regarding maintenance and fault rectification of ASE to Naval personnel booked onto a maintenance course after a suitable length of time in the position.
  • Conducting occasional audits and ensuring the department is complying with current regulations.
  • Driving and logistics around the establishment, including forklift where authorised.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

This role will initially require the post holder to undertake a period of on-the-job training and full support will be provided. You will become familiar with systems and procedures and build competence in specific aspects of the role and environment.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you will need to demonstrate that you can meet the following essential criteria:

  • Fully qualified with an NVQ Level 3 as a minimum in either Electrical Installation or Electrical Maintenance / or equivalent qualifications and have appropriate experience and qualifications to work with little or no supervision.
  • Hold a Full UK Driving Licence to be able to drive around the site to vist different departments for purposes of role.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain processes and provide guidance to others.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining a high level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Effective communication skills.

Licences

UK Full Driving Licence .The individual needs to drive around a seven mile site and on occasion to a different site to carry out duties of the role.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 as a minimum in either Electrical Installation or Electrical Maintenance / or equivalent qualifications
