About the role

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school in St Helens for a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil within Key Stage 1 on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This rewarding role is ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant who has a passion for supporting children with additional needs and helping them to achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
The Role
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a KS1 pupil with additional learning needs, providing tailored support throughout the school day. You will work alongside the class teacher, SENCO and other professionals to implement strategies that enable the pupil to access the curriculum, engage with learning and develop confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs
- Supporting the pupil’s academic, social and emotional development
- Adapting learning activities to meet individual needs
- Promoting positive behaviour and engagement within the classroom
- Delivering targeted interventions as directed by the class teacher and SENCO
- Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
- Supporting the child’s communication, confidence and independence
- Building positive relationships with parents, staff and external agencies where appropriate.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a UK primary school
- Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) on a 1:1 basis
- Experience working within Key Stage 1
- A patient, caring and resilient approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with children
- Understanding strategies used to support pupils with additional needs
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of the KS1 curriculum
- Experience delivering interventions and personalised learning support
- Team Teach or other positive behaviour management training
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
- Relevant childcare, education or SEN qualification
- Additional SEN-related training and certifications
