About the role
The successful Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist will lead a team of technicians while coordinating the movement of components through the workshop, with a strong focus on reducing turnaround times, maximising output and ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with the relevant aviation standards.
As the Workshop Team Leader / Workflow Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
- Planning daily and weekly workshop activities based on incoming asset backlogs and customer priorities.
- Monitoring components through cleaning, NDT, machining, inspection and final assembly.
- Identifying and resolving workflow bottlenecks to improve component turnaround times.
- Driving workshop KPIs with a focus on TAT reduction and increased output.
- Coordinating with stores to ensure parts, repair kits and consumables are available ahead of production.
- Leading, motivating, challenging and allocating work to mechanics, inspectors and support staff.
- Maintaining strong EHS and 5S standards throughout the workshop.
- Identifying skills gaps, coordinating technical training and signing off technician competency matrices.
- Ensuring digital and paper maintenance release tags, teardown reports and logbooks are completed accurately.
- Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with current Component Maintenance Manuals and applicable airworthiness directives.
- Overseeing the tracking and calibration of specialist tooling, torque wrenches and inflation cages.
- Supporting internal quality teams and external aviation authorities during workshop audits and inspections.
- 3–5 years’ experience within an aviation MRO environment, specifically involving aircraft wheels, brakes or landing gear components.
- 1–2 years’ experience within a Team Leader, Supervisor or Production Planning position.
- Strong working knowledge of EASA Part 145, FAA Part 145 or local CAA regulatory frameworks.
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement principles within a workshop environment.
- Experience using aviation ERP/MRO systems such as Quantum, AMOS or SAP.
- Competence using Microsoft Excel.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to reallocate resources effectively when dealing with parts delays or staffing shortages.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly around aviation safety, quality and documentation.
- The ability to work effectively within a manual workshop environment, including lifting components and standing for extended periods.
