The Practice

This locally owned small animal practice has developed a busy and varied caseload supported by a large clinical, nursing and client care team.

The vacancy describes a team of five Veterinary Surgeons, seven Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses and two Animal Care Assistants. The current practice website confirms five Vets alongside an established nursing team including a Nurse Clinic Lead, RVNs, SVNs and ACAs, together with dedicated practice management and client care colleagues.

There is a good range of experience within the team. One of the practice owners has completed postgraduate study in small animal internal medicine, while the nursing leadership brings experience from first opinion, specialist orthopaedic and ophthalmology environments and Emergency & Critical Care. The Nurse Clinic Lead also has particular interests in anaesthesia and ECC.

The practice is particularly well suited to a Vet wanting to develop surgical interests. The vacancy highlights an existing soft tissue surgeon currently undertaking further certification, while the practice offers orthopaedics, fracture repair, cruciate surgery, physiotherapy and more advanced surgical services.

An interest in orthopaedics would be advantageous but isn't essential, with physiotherapy support also available for orthopaedic patients.

There is additionally an exotic caseload, with dedicated equipment available and CPD support for a Vet interested in developing further in this area.

The Role

This is a permanent full-time position working 40 hours per week on a rota basis.

The practice is currently open:

• Monday to Friday – 9:00am to 7:30pm.
• Saturday – 9:00am to 4:45pm.
• Sunday – Closed.

There are no OOH duties and no sole charge, with emergency cover provided externally when the practice is closed. Bank Holidays are shared equally across the team, amounting to approximately three to four per year.

You'll manage a varied and busy small animal caseload across consultations, routine surgery and medical work-ups. The breadth of equipment and services available also creates opportunities to become involved with more advanced medical and surgical cases.

The practice additionally undertakes home visits and has its own vehicle to support these appointments.

CPD is actively encouraged, with a £1,500 annual allowance and support available for further qualifications and certificate development.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon who is confident managing routine medical and surgical cases.

You'll enjoy variety and be comfortable building strong relationships with clients while working collaboratively with the wider veterinary and nursing team.

An interest in orthopaedics would be particularly welcomed but isn't essential. The practice would also suit someone interested in developing further in areas such as soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, exotics, diagnostic imaging or Emergency & Critical Care.

You'll be joining a busy practice, so a confident and proactive approach is important, but with no sole charge and an established multidisciplinary team there is good clinical support available.
