Veterinary Nurse Lancashire

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a large, progressive and well-equipped small animal practice in Lancashire. Offering a salary of £30,000–£35,000 pro rata depending on experience, this permanent part-time position is worked across 27 hours per week with a 1 in 4 weekend rota and no OOH or overnight inpatient checks.

The role is open to both experienced RVNs and newly qualified nurses, with excellent support for CPD, funded certificates and the opportunity to develop individual clinical interests within a practice offering advanced surgery, diagnostics and nursing services.

The Practice

This is a busy, progressive and locally led small animal practice with a strong emphasis on clinical development, teamwork and creating individual roles that allow colleagues to make the most of their skills.

The vacancy describes a multidisciplinary team of approximately 22 colleagues, including a Clinical Director, Lead Veterinary Surgeon, three additional Veterinary Surgeons, Head RVN, RVNs, Student Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants, management and a dedicated front-of-house team.

The current practice team also demonstrates a particularly strong range of clinical interests. The Lead Veterinary Surgeon holds a postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Surgery and is undertaking further study in Small Animal Oncology, with interests in soft tissue and reconstructive surgery and wound management. Within the nursing team there are additional interests and qualifications in areas including dentistry, dermatology, nurse consultations, clinical coaching and canine behaviour.

This creates an excellent environment for an RVN wanting to develop a particular area of nursing rather than being restricted to a purely routine role.

The practice has invested significantly in advanced services and equipment and accepts some referrals from other veterinary practices. Its clinical services extend beyond general first opinion work to include orthopaedics, laparoscopy, advanced dermatology, endoscopy and oncology/chemotherapy services.

Onsite parking is available for colleagues commuting by car.

The Role

This is a permanent part-time position working 27 hours per week, including participation in a 1 in 4 weekend rota.

The practice is open seven days per week, currently operating 8:00am–8:00pm Monday to Friday, 8:00am–6:00pm Saturday and 10:00am–4:00pm Sunday. The exact weekday shift pattern within the 27-hour contract isn't specified in the vacancy and would need to be agreed with the practice.

Importantly, there are no OOH or overnight inpatient checks attached to the position, with emergency care provided externally when the practice is closed.

You'll have the opportunity to work across a broad range of nursing responsibilities and make full use of your clinical skills within a well-equipped environment. With advanced surgery, diagnostics, inpatient facilities and nurse-led services all available, there is excellent scope to develop interests in areas such as surgical nursing, anaesthesia, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostics, inpatient care or consulting.

The Candidate

The practice is happy to consider both experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses and newly qualified RVNs looking for their first permanent nursing position.

You'll have a genuine passion for animal welfare and high standards of patient care, together with good communication and client service skills.

The practice is particularly suited to an RVN who wants to remain clinically engaged and continue progressing professionally. Nurses with existing specialist interests are welcomed, while those wishing to develop a new area of expertise will receive support through CPD and further qualifications.
