About the role
We are seeking a reliable and practical Building Services Supervisor to join our busy Site Team. This role would suit someone with experience as a handyman, caretaker, premises assistant, or an individual with DIY and maintenance skills who enjoys a hands-on working environment.
Working under the direction of the Site Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring our school buildings, grounds, and facilities remain safe, secure, clean, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors. The role operates on a variable shift pattern, within working hours scheduled between 7.00am and 6.00pm.
Duties will include:
- Taking responsibility for site security through keyholding duties, including site opening, lock-up procedures and alarm operation.
- Maintaining the school grounds and outdoor areas, including litter picking, gritting, snow clearance, and other routine grounds maintenance tasks.
- Supporting the preparation and clearing of classrooms, halls, and outdoor spaces for lessons, assemblies and school events and help manage deliveries and site stock.
- Carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general building upkeep to a high standard.
- Assisting with porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries as required.
- Working in accordance with health and safety procedures and contributing to a positive safety culture across the school.
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people in line with the school's safeguarding policies and procedures.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a practical, hands-on approach and is happy to undertake a range of physical duties.
- Possesses good DIY and maintenance skills, along with a proactive attitude and commitment to maintaining our school buildings and grounds to a high standard.
- Enjoys working both indoors and outdoors in a busy school environment alongside pupils, staff, visitors, and contractors.
- Demonstrates a flexible approach to work and a positive, solution-focused "can-do" attitude.
- Able to follow instructions positively, work cooperatively with others, and contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the school.
- Is able to work independently, using initiative to identify and resolve issues when required.
- Is willing to undertake relevant training and professional development to support the role.
