About the role
SEN Teaching Assistant Job
First for Education is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Acocks Green, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs and individual learning requirements.
This is a full-time, long-term position, working with pupils who require additional support with learning, communication, behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and personal development.
The school caters for pupils with a variety of needs and provides a highly supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment with experienced staff and access to specialist training. This makes it an excellent opportunity for a SEN Teaching Assistant looking to develop their experience, enhance their SEN knowledge, and build specialist skills within an educational setting.

SEN Teaching Assistant Role Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or within an SEN setting
- Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH, MLD
- Strong communication, patience, resilience, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive, trusting, and consistent relationships with pupils
- A proactive, adaptable, and child-centred approach
- Willingness to support with personal care if required (training provided)
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, pupil wellbeing, and positive outcomes
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
The Successful SEN Teaching Assistant Will
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and within small-group settings
- Assist with learning activities, personal development, and individual learning goals
- Support pupils with communication, behaviour, emotional regulation, engagement, and social development
- Help create a safe, structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
- Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and wider support staff as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team
- Adapt support strategies, learning activities, and approaches to meet individual pupil needs
- Encourage independence, confidence, participation, and positive learning behaviours
