About the role

Work Pattern: 2-3 days in office (including Hubs as per Rota)

PAYE Pay Rate: £19.32 per hour

Job Purpose

To assess housing applications and determine eligibility for the Council’s Housing Register, ensuring allocations are lawful, fair and suitable. The role is responsible for meeting statutory requirements, performance targets and service standards when allocating social housing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and assess social housing applications, including complex cases.
  • Apply housing legislation, policies and the Council’s Housing Allocations Policy.
  • Assess applicants’ housing needs and make lawful, defensible decisions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Housing Register records and case information.
  • Carry out data checks, reconciliation and performance reporting.
  • Liaise with internal departments, housing teams and external agencies.
  • Investigate and identify potential fraudulent applications where required.
  • Undertake home visits to verify applicants’ circumstances and eligibility.
  • Support vulnerable applicants to ensure they can successfully manage a tenancy.
  • Provide clear information and advice to applicants regarding available properties and services.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the housing allocations service.
  • Ensure compliance with equality, data protection, health and safety and lone-working requirements.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience working in a busy customer service environment, particularly with vulnerable customers.
  • Experience managing computerized information and housing/case management systems.
  • Experience working with professional teams and external agencies.
  • Knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, policies and good practice.
  • Ability to assess and apply complex legislation accurately and fairly.
  • Strong communication, organization and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and analyze information.
  • Ability to undertake home visits and work safely when lone working.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Current full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for work.
  • Basic DBS
