About the role

The Coleshill School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly effective Head of Creative Arts and Technology to join our supportive and ambitious team. This is an exciting opportunity for a DT-qualified teacher to lead and develop our Creative Arts and Technology provision, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across the department. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the curriculum, raising achievement and inspiring students to develop their creativity, practical skills and confidence.

Key responsibilities

  1. Leading and developing the Creative Arts and Technology department, providing clear direction and high expectations.
  2. Ensuring the delivery of a broad, engaging and ambitious curriculum across Creative Arts and Technology.
  3. Planning and delivering high-quality DT lessons that engage, challenge and inspire students.
  4. Monitoring and evaluating teaching, learning and student progress across the department.
  5. Using assessment information effectively to identify areas for development and improve student outcomes.
  6. Supporting, developing and motivating colleagues through collaboration, sharing good practice and contributing to departmental CPD.
  7. Promoting high standards of behaviour, achievement and engagement across the department.
  8. Managing departmental resources effectively and contributing to curriculum development and strategic planning.
  9. Contributing to the wider life of the school and supporting our commitment to providing an excellent education for all students.

What you'll need to succeed

  1. Be a qualified teacher of Design and Technology (DT) with a strong subject knowledge and passion for the subject.
  2. Experience of delivering high-quality DT teaching across the secondary age and ability range.
  3. Experience of leading or supporting the development of a curriculum area or department or is ready to take the next step into a significant leadership role.
  4. Have high expectations of all students and is committed to raising achievement.
  5. The ability to inspire, motivate and develop both students and colleagues.
  6. Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills.
  7. Can use assessment and other relevant data effectively to monitor progress and inform departmental improvement.
  8. Committed to developing their own professional practice and supporting the development of others.
  9. Enthusiastic about contributing to the wider school community and helping to shape the future direction of Creative Arts and Technology.
