Consultant Cardiologist - Ambulatory Care
Locum Consultant Cardiologist with special interest in Ambulatory Care at the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. £100/hr assignment rate.
The Cardiology department at Belfast HSC Trust is seeking a Consultant Cardiologist to join the team providing specialist cardiac services from September 2026 through January 2027. The main duty is to provide a key role in the Ambulatory Cardiology Unit (ACU), based at Belfast City Hospital.
The ACU provides specialist cardiac assessment within 72 hours of triaging for patients presenting with recent-onset symptoms including breathlessness with elevated NT-proBNP, new-onset symptomatic arrhythmia, unexplained syncope, and cases referred by Consultant Cardiologists.
The post holder will also contribute to the emergency clinical on-call service, Consultant of the Week rota, and elective outpatient care. Attendance at MDT meetings is expected for complex case governance. The weekly schedule includes 4 PAs Ambulatory Care, 1 PA ward work, 1 PA teaching, 1 PA Cardio-oncology joint clinic, 0.5 PA MDT, 2 PAs admin, and 0.5 PA on-call.
Essential criteria:
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register for Cardiology (via CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights)
- Fellowship or Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent
- Evidence of independent management of general cardiology patients
- Competent in management of ambulatory care cardiac patients
- Competent in management of critically ill patients
- Valid GMC registration with licence to practise
- Right to work in the UK
- At least 1 year UK clinical experience (clinical attachments/observerships not accepted)
- Up-to-date AccessNI clearance (DBS does not suffice for Northern Ireland)
- ALS certification from accredited course (e.g. Resuscitation Council UK)
- Professional indemnity insurance
- Minimum 2 recent specialty-relevant references
