The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to support a specialist CAMHS Service in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00 working pattern, providing structured and consistent work within a well-established multidisciplinary team. It is ideally suited to experienced Consultants who are passionate about delivering high-quality mental health care to children, young people, and their families.

You will provide senior clinical leadership across the service, managing complex CAMHS presentations, supporting multidisciplinary colleagues, and contributing to the delivery of safe, effective, and recovery-focused care.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide consultant-level leadership within a specialist CAMHS service
• Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for children and adolescents
• Take clinical responsibility for young people presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions and complex needs
• Manage presentations including depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm, eating disorders, psychosis, ADHD, ASD, trauma-related disorders, and emotional and behavioural difficulties
• Lead multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and care planning discussions
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans
• Work collaboratively with psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, family therapists, and wider healthcare professionals
• Liaise with families, carers, schools, local authorities, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care
• Contribute to safeguarding processes and provide clinical leadership in complex safeguarding cases
• Undertake Mental Health Act assessments and fulfil Approved Clinician responsibilities where required
• Prepare Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunal hearings
• Supervise junior doctors and contribute to education, training, and professional development activities
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
• Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, professionalism, and clinical care

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent qualification (CESR)
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is highly desirable
• Valid Section 12 Approval is essential
• Approved Clinician (AC) Status is essential
• Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within CAMHS
• Experience managing complex child and adolescent mental health presentations
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and multi-agency working
• Experience with Mental Health Act assessments, tribunal reports, and statutory processes
• Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
