About the role

Job Title: Apprenticeship Skills Coach & Trade Lecturer (Carpentry & Property Maintenance)

Location: South East London

Working Pattern: Full-Time (3 Days Workplace Coaching, 2 Days Classroom Teaching)

Salary: £33,762 - £44,027

The Opportunity

Ready to swap full-time site work for a dynamic split role in further education? We are partnering with a prominent college group in South East London to find a passionate trade expert who can teach, coach, and guide the next generation of apprentices. In this unique dual-capacity position, you will spend two days sharing your expertise in Property Maintenance within a supportive campus environment and three days out in the field mentoring Carpentry apprentices across local employer settings. It is an exceptional opportunity to turn your years of hands-on experience into a rewarding career that directly changes lives through vocational education.

About the Setting

Our partner organisation is a major Further Education provider operating across modern campuses in South East London. They are deeply committed to social mobility, working with diverse learners from a wide variety of backgrounds to help them overcome barriers and achieve career ambitions. Staff at the college enjoy a collaborative, supportive environment backed by outstanding professional development opportunities-including full sponsorship and support to gain formal teaching and assessing qualifications on the job.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and facilitate engaging classroom and practical workshop sessions for Property Maintenance Operations (PMO) apprentices two days per week.

  • Serve as a dedicated Carpentry Skills Coach three days per week, visiting apprentices in their workplaces and conducting progress reviews on campus or online.

  • Carry out initial learner assessments, establish individual learning plans, and continuously track progress toward End-Point Assessment (EPA) gateways.

  • Conduct dynamic assessments, provide constructive feedback, and ensure apprentices document their required on-and-off-the-job training.

  • Build strong relationships with local employers and line managers to align workplace opportunities with qualification frameworks.

  • Maintain accurate electronic administrative records and monitor timely success rates in accordance with college quality systems.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications & Experience: A minimum Level 3 vocational qualification in Carpentry or Property Maintenance, backed by at least 5 years of recent, hands-on industry experience. Level 2 (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent) in English and Maths. A teaching qualification (PTTLS minimum) or assessor award (TAQA/A1/D32/D33) is desirable, or a willingness to work towards them.

  • Characteristics: Outstanding communication skills, strong administration habits for record-keeping, and an approachable, patient mentoring style.

  • Transport & Commute: A full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are required for visiting apprentices at local workplace sites.

Safeguarding & Compliance

Our partner setting is strictly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All appointments are subject to an Enhanced DBS check with relevant Barred List checks, verification of all CV gaps, social media checks in line with KCSiE guidelines, and confirmation of right to work in the UK.
