Salary: £32,787 - £40,306

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a prominent Further Education college group in South East London to recruit a dedicated Vocational Trainer & Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery. Whether you are an experienced FE educator looking for a fresh challenge or an established trade professional eager to swap the tools for the classroom, this role offers an outstanding platform to shape the future of the construction sector. Working closely with the Curriculum Manager, you will teach and inspire students working towards Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, helping learners from all backgrounds gain the practical skills, confidence, and qualifications needed to thrive in industry.

About the Setting

Our partner college is a major Further Education provider operating across modern, purpose-built campuses in South East London. The department boasts state-of-the-art trade workshops, excellent employer links, and a strong community presence focused on raising aspirations and supporting social mobility. Staff benefit from excellent continuous professional development - including clear pathways and full support to gain formal FE teaching qualifications - alongside access to generous pension schemes, health and wellness perks, and strong internal career progression.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses across practical workshop spaces and theoretical classrooms.

  • Design, update, and manage course materials, lesson plans, and schemes of work prior to course start dates.

  • Conduct regular academic tutorials to deliver constructive performance feedback, monitor attendance, and track student achievement.

  • Enforce rigorous Health and Safety protocols across all workshop spaces to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Embedded functional literacy and numeracy support within practical context to boost overall student confidence.

  • Participate in departmental recruitment activities, open days, and employer networking to help facilitate high-quality student work placements.

  • Maintain meticulous administrative records and student progression logs in compliance with internal quality assurance standards.

What We Are Looking For

  • Qualifications: Full Level 3 NVQ qualification in Carpentry/Joinery and Level 2 literacy and numeracy credentials (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent). A recognized FE teaching qualification or Assessor/IQA awards (A1/TAQA) are desirable, but candidates willing to work towards a teaching qualification will be fully supported.

  • Characteristics: A minimum of 5 years of verifiable trade industry experience in Carpentry & Joinery, excellent verbal communication skills to present effectively to class groups, and efficient administrative capabilities.

  • Transport & Commute: Ability to commute reliably to college campus sites across South East London.

Safeguarding & Compliance

We are strictly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. This position is exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Any offer of employment is subject to an Enhanced DBS check with Children's and Adult's Barred List checks, verification of full employment history with all CV gaps explained, and proof of the right to work in the UK.
