About the role

Job Purpose

To safely and efficiently operate within the spinning and gilling departments, carrying out doffing duties and supporting the continuous production of quality yarn and fibre.

The role involves removing full packages or cans from machinery, replacing them with empty packages or materials, maintaining production flow, and ensuring high standards of safety, quality, housekeeping and productivity.

Gilling Doffer Duties

  • Carry out doffing duties on gilling machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Remove completed sliver cans or material from the gilling machine as required.
  • Replace materials and prepare the machine for the next production run.
  • Ensure correct materials are delivered to the next step in the production order.
  • Monitor the quality and condition of material produced by the gilling process.
  • Identify and report faults, irregularities or machine problems promptly.
  • Assist with maintaining continuous production and minimising unnecessary downtime.
  • Ensure finished material is correctly identified, labelled and transferred to the appropriate area.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining the gilling area and machinery in accordance with company procedures.

Health & Safety

The successful candidate must:

  • Follow all site health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Take care around moving machinery and comply with machine guarding requirements.
  • Report accidents, near misses, hazards and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout the work area.
  • Follow manual handling procedures and safe working practices at all times.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, textile or production environment.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at a steady pace in a repetitive production environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
  • Good team-working skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Physically capable of carrying out the duties associated with the role.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a spinning mill.
  • Experience operating or working alongside textile spinning machinery.
  • Knowledge of yarn production or textile manufacturing processes.
  • Previous experience working shifts.

  • Working in a noisy production environment.
  • Working shifts, including weekends where required.

Qualifications & Training

No formal qualifications are necessarily required, as full training can be provided to a suitable candidate. Training will include relevant machine operation, health and safety, manual handling, quality procedures and site-specific processes.

Salary & Benefits

Hourly rate : £12.71

Hours: Shift Pattern 6-2pm 2-10pm
