Job Description
The role:
An exciting opportunity has opened within the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) for an Intelligence Researcher to join our Regional Organised Threat Assessment Unit.
The successful applicant will:
- Interrogate a range of databases and systems to identify intelligence of value to departments or individuals.
- Conduct daily scanning or data input activities as required to assist in understanding and identification of threat, risk and vulnerability.
- Liaise with customers to define research requirements, asking key questions to clarify understanding and providing advice on opportunities and limitations that exist.
- Collect and collate intelligence in line with customer requirements, recording results in a suitable format and ensuring reference and provenance details are provided.
- Work in collaboration with key stakeholders, conducting research into specific places or individuals, and highlighting known intelligence and gaps in reporting.
- Add value to collated data by theming intelligence according to the terms of the project and drawing key links between individuals and groups.
- Support analysts and other intelligence professionals in their assessment of threat by establishing and maintaining effective horizon scanning processes that highlight relevant intelligence, adding context and clarity where necessary.
- Provide findings in a suitable format for the project, whether written, visual or verbal.
- Produce briefings and visual products for internal and external customers to increase their knowledge of threat, risk and vulnerability.
- Disseminate intelligence in an appropriate manner, to relevant departments and individuals, ensuring this is managed in line with handling instructions and Government Security Classifications.
About the Team
The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit has responsibility for targeting serious and organised crime across the region and the delivery of specialist covert services to Forces when required.
The Regional Organised Crime Threat Assessment (ROCTA) Unit is made up of research and analytical staff. The ROCTA team is responsible for assessment and mapping of OCGs, along with scoping and understanding the strategic threat to the Eastern Region from serious and organised crime and identifying emerging threats and trends across the region.
Who We're Looking For
- Experience in working with Windows based software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to interrogate data from multiple systems, working to tight deadlines
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Flexible approach to work and ability to self-motivate
- Prior experience of handling intelligence or working in a policing environment (desirable)
- Accredited through the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) (desirable)
WORK LOCATION
This role will be an Agile role, with an expectation to travel to Stevenage, Hertfordshire at least twice a week. ERSOU supports principles of agile working and encourages staff from any force or location to apply for positions.

Created in 2010, ERSOU is funded by the seven police forces that make up the eastern region, with Bedfordshire Police being the lead force. ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region.

VETTING
Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.
