About the role

    We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Senior Building Control Officer to join our dynamic Building Control team. 

    In this role, you will support the delivery of a high-quality Building Control service by assisting with site inspections, plan checking and the supervision of building works to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation. 

    Working closely with customers, developers and construction professionals, you will help ensure building projects meet the required standards while providing expert advice and guidance throughout the process.

    What will you be doing?

    As a Senior Building Control Officer, you will manage a varied caseload of building regulation applications appropriate to your level of Class 2 registration, ensuring that proposed and completed building works comply with Building Regulations and associated legislation. Through plan assessments and site inspections, you will play a key role in maintaining high standards of safety, quality and regulatory compliance across a wide range of construction projects.

    Working closely with the Team Leader and Principal Building Control Officer, you will provide regular updates on the progress of allocated work, maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports relating to regulated building activities. You will also offer professional advice and guidance on Building Regulations and related legislation to developers, architects, contractors and members of the public.

    The role includes investigating and resolving breaches of Building Regulations and relevant legislation, with the opportunity to support enforcement action and represent the Council in legal proceedings where required. In addition, you will assist with the assessment and reporting of dangerous, dilapidated and ruinous structures, as well as supporting the Council's statutory responsibilities in relation to building demolitions through inspections and technical advice.

    About you

    In this role the successful candidate will be working closely with the Principal and Senior Building Control Surveyors, you’ll help ensure that the Council’s statutory functions are properly carried out in dealing with the building regulations and associated legislative controls including fire, health and safety matters relating to buildings and structures. 

    You will need to be a member of RICS, CABE or equivalent and be a Class 2 (C to F) Registered Building inspector.
