Our client is one of the leading law firms in the Southeast, and one of oldest law firms in operation in the world. With over 140 fee earners, their specialist practice areas include Commercial, Corporate, Employment, Construction, Real Estate and Agriculture & Rural Affairs

They have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Cashier. To provide an effective, accurate and responsive daily cashiering service to the firm in support of its client work and internal financial processes. The job holder will process client and office account transactions, assist with the smooth running of the Cashiering Section, help ensure transactions are completed promptly and in accordance with the firm’s policies and the SRA Accounts Rules, and provide clear and helpful support to fee earners, secretaries and colleagues across the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Posting client and office payments accurately and inputting payment instructions onto the online banking system (Bankline), ensuring appropriate approvals and supporting documentation are in place
  • Posting receipts, including cheques and electronic receipts, and ensuring they are allocated to the correct client or office ledgers
  • Checking and posting client bills and credit notes, ensuring entries are complete, accurate and properly authorised
  • Posting client transfers, client-to-office transfers and bill write offs in accordance with internal procedures and relevant regulatory requirements
  • Responding to fee earner and secretary queries in a timely and professional manner, escalating complex or unusual matters where appropriate
  • Processing work in progress transfers and write offs, ensuring the correct matter records are updated and appropriate authorisation has been obtained
  • Producing, reviewing and following up monitoring reports, such as inactive accounts, residual balances and client-to-office transfers, to support compliance and timely resolution of outstanding items
  • Processing staff expenses and corporate credit card expenses, checking supporting information and ensuring costs are recorded accurately
  • Processing purchase ledger invoices and assisting with supplier payment runs where required

Candidate Profile

  • 1 to 2 years’ experience working in a cashiering or finance function within a legal or other professional services environment.
  • Experience of using electronic accounting systems, ideally within a legal practice setting.
  • Experience of using online banking systems and processing payment instructions securely and accurately.
  • Working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules and the importance of client money controls, audit trails and timely transaction processing.
