The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in North West England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join an established NHS service and provide high-quality specialist care across both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level clinical support across the service, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and helping to ensure safe, effective and patient-centred care.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Obstetrics & Gynaecology services across the Trust.

The role will include:

  • Providing Consultant-level clinical care across Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Covering the full Obstetrics & Gynaecology rota
  • Providing senior clinical support across inpatient, outpatient and emergency services
  • Assessing, diagnosing and managing obstetric and gynaecological patients
  • Providing Consultant-level decision-making and clinical leadership
  • Supporting the management of acute and complex cases
  • Participating in on-call and out-of-hours services as part of the full rota
  • Providing specialist advice to junior doctors, colleagues and referring clinicians
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team working and clinical discussions
  • Supporting safe and effective patient pathways
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and high standards of patient care
  • Contributing to clinical governance, audit and service improvement activities where required
  • Supporting and supervising junior medical staff where appropriate
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical safety, professionalism and patient-centred care

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Previous NHS Consultant-level Obstetrics & Gynaecology experience
  • Strong experience across both Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Ability to cover a full O&G rota, including on-call and out-of-hours commitments
  • Ability to independently assess and manage acute obstetric and gynaecological presentations
  • Strong clinical decision-making and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Availability to commence ASAP and work through to 30 November 2026

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Obstetrics & Gynaecology department
  • Experience covering a full Consultant O&G rota
  • Experience managing complex obstetric and gynaecological cases
  • Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
  • Teaching and supervision experience
  • Experience contributing to service development and pathway improvement
