Data Consultant - Insurance

We are working with a UK-based General Insurance business seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Data Consultant to join its established data function.

This is a broad, hands-on role covering insurance data operations, Snowflake engineering, data quality, financial reconciliation, governance and BI. The successful candidate will need a strong technical background combined with practical experience working with insurance data, particularly bordereaux and delegated authority business.

Essential Insurance Experience

Insurance experience is essential for this role. You should have hands-on experience working with insurance operational data, ideally within a carrier, MGA, broker, insurtech or specialty insurance environment.

Relevant experience includes:

• Bordereaux processing and management
• MGA / delegated authority data
• TPA and third-party insurance data
• Policy and claims data
• Premium and exposure reporting
• Insurance data and financial reconciliation
• Working with external insurance partners and resolving data submission issues

Technical Requirements

Strong hands-on experience across:

• Snowflake – data warehousing, schema and data mart development/maintenance
• Advanced SQL – ingestion, extraction, transformation, reconciliation and optimisation
• Data modelling and ETL/ELT processes
• Azure cloud environments
• Power BI – dashboard and management information development

Experience with Metabase would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly collection, validation and ingestion of policy, claims and quote bordereaux from MGAs, TPAs and other distribution partners.
• Work with external partners to resolve data quality issues and manage non-standard data submissions and manual interventions.
• Develop, maintain and enhance Snowflake data structures, schemas and data marts.
• Build and optimise SQL queries as the underlying data model and business requirements evolve.
• Investigate and resolve data issues across the full reporting lifecycle.
• Perform end-to-end reconciliation from Raw through Core to MART, including control totals, roll-forwards, variance analysis and materiality assessment.
• Support the delivery of accurate and trusted data outputs to Finance and wider business stakeholders.
• Support the onboarding of new MGAs, TPAs and distribution partners, defining data requirements and ensuring relevant underwriting and rating factors are captured.
• Develop and improve data quality controls, governance, lineage and traceability.
• Support the remediation of existing audit and control findings, helping to embed more preventative controls earlier in the data lifecycle.
• Build and maintain Power BI reporting and dashboards, supporting self-service reporting across the business.
• Work closely with Finance, Underwriting, Distribution, MGA relationships and internal Data & Technology teams.
