The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Neurologist.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Neurologist to join an established NHS Neurology service and provide high-quality specialist neurological care.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting the Trust's existing waiting list and contributing to the delivery of safe, efficient and patient-centred Neurology services.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Neurology services within the Trust.

The clinical workload will consist of a blend of face-to-face outpatient clinics and virtual triage of the existing waiting list.

The anticipated weekly activity is likely to include 4 or 5 outpatient clinics alongside 2 or 3 virtual triage sessions.

Clinics are 4 hours long, with 30 minutes allocated for new patient appointments.

The role will include:

  • Providing Consultant-level Neurology services
  • Conducting face-to-face outpatient Neurology clinics
  • Undertaking virtual triage of patients on the existing waiting list
  • Assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with neurological conditions
  • Reviewing new and follow-up patients as appropriate
  • Providing specialist neurological advice to referring clinicians and colleagues
  • Developing and reviewing appropriate patient management plans
  • Supporting the efficient management of the Neurology waiting list
  • Working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Ensuring high standards of clinical governance and patient safety
  • Contributing to service improvement activities where required
  • Supporting junior medical staff and colleagues where appropriate

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Neurology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Previous NHS Consultant Neurologist experience
  • Strong clinical experience in Neurology
  • Experience conducting outpatient Neurology clinics
  • Ability to undertake virtual clinical triage and assess patients appropriately
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred neurological care
  • Availability to work Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00
  • Ability to undertake on-site working only

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Neurology department
  • Experience managing outpatient waiting lists
  • Experience with virtual triage pathways
  • Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
  • Teaching and supervision experience
