The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Consultant Orthodontist to join our growing Medico-Legal Panel.

We have an immediate requirement for an independent expert to prepare a Clinical Negligence Breach of Duty & Causation Screening Report.

The instruction relates to the standard of orthodontic care provided during the diagnosis, planning and delivery of orthodontic treatment, including the assessment and management of root resorption, treatment planning, patient communication and long-term clinical outcomes. The successful expert will review approximately 127 pages of medical records, together with supporting dental records, radiographs and clinical photographs, before providing an independent opinion on breach of duty and causation. Confidential case details will only be shared following an initial suitability assessment and conflict check.

This is a flexible, case-based opportunity that can be undertaken alongside your existing NHS and/or private clinical practice.

What You'll Be Doing

• Review dental records, radiographs, clinical photographs and supporting documentation.
• Assess the orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, delivery of treatment and subsequent clinical management.
• Produce a clear, structured Breach of Duty & Causation Screening Report within your field of expertise.
• Provide an independent opinion regarding the standard of orthodontic care, the recognition and management of root resorption, treatment decisions and whether any alleged breaches materially affected the claimant's long-term outcome.
• Address the specific questions set out by the instructing party.
• Clearly distinguish factual history from independent clinical opinion and identify any evidential limitations.
• Manage deadlines, confidentiality and documentation in accordance with medico-legal standards.
• Participate in supplementary reports, clarification requests, conferences or Court attendance where required.

What We're Looking For

• Consultant Orthodontist or Specialist Orthodontist registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).
• Must be permanently based within the United Kingdom.
• Must be currently practising within the NHS and/or UK private dental sector.
• Demonstrable current, direct clinical experience in Orthodontics, including:
• Comprehensive orthodontic treatment planning.
• Management and monitoring of root resorption.
• Interpretation of orthodontic radiographs.
• Long-term orthodontic outcomes.
• Orthodontic complications.
• Patient consent and communication relating to orthodontic treatment.
• Previous medico-legal report writing and Expert Witness experience is required.
• Formal Expert Witness and/or Medico-Legal training is required.
• Ability to provide objective, independent clinical opinion within your field of expertise.
• Ability to identify and declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest prior to accepting instructions.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship).
