The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (CAMHS) to support a well-established CAMHS service in the East of England.

This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 schedule, providing consistent and structured work within a multidisciplinary child and adolescent mental health setting. It is ideal for experienced consultants who are passionate about delivering high-quality mental health care to children, young people, and their families.

You will play a key leadership role within the multidisciplinary team, overseeing clinical decision-making, supporting junior medical colleagues, and contributing to the development of effective, patient-centred treatment plans across a broad range of mental health presentations.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide consultant-level leadership within a specialist CAMHS service
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for children and adolescents presenting with a range of mental health conditions
  • Develop and oversee evidence-based treatment plans tailored to the needs of young people and their families
  • Take clinical responsibility for a caseload involving complex presentations, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, trauma-related disorders, self-harm, eating disorders, and behavioural difficulties
  • Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to collaborative care planning
  • Work closely with families, carers, schools, social care services, and other partner agencies to ensure coordinated care
  • Undertake risk assessments and provide clinical leadership in the management of high-risk cases
  • Prepare reports for Mental Health Act processes, tribunals, and court proceedings where required
  • Supervise and support junior doctors, specialty trainees, and other members of the medical team
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance activities
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient safety and clinical care

What We're Looking For

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent qualification (CESR)
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility)
  • Section 12 Approval
  • Approved Clinician Status (desirable)
  • Significant UK experience working within CAMHS at consultant level
  • Experience managing complex child and adolescent mental health presentations
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and multi-agency environments
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and statutory frameworks relating to children and young people
  • Experience with Mental Health Act assessments and tribunals
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
  • Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
