The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Ophthalmology Consultant to support a service in Wales.
This opportunity offers a 3-month locum contract, providing structured and varied work within a hospital environment. The role is well suited to candidates with experience in comprehensive ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery, glaucoma management, laser treatments, and emergency ophthalmic care.
You will be working alongside established clinical teams, supporting day-to-day service delivery and contributing to safe, effective patient care.

What You'll Be Doing
- Deliver high-quality care within your scope of practice in an Ophthalmology environment.
- Undertake consultant-level cataract surgery lists.
- Manage patients within glaucoma, general ophthalmology, and primary care ophthalmology clinics.
- Perform YAG laser treatment sessions.
- Participate in the 2nd on-call rota, attending emergency ocular surgery cases as required.
- Support day-to-day clinical operations, contributing to efficient patient flow and service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, optometrists, AHPs, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards.
- Identify and escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, effective, and well-functioning clinical environment.
What We're Looking For
- Active GMC registration.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology or equivalent consultant-level experience.
- Relevant recent UK NHS experience within Ophthalmology.
- Experience in cataract surgery, glaucoma management, and ophthalmic laser procedures.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of an established multidisciplinary team.
- Strong clinical judgement, communication, and professionalism.
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship).
