The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Locum Specialty Doctor (SAS) in General Adult Psychiatry to support an Adult Inpatient Mental Health Service in London.

This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 schedule, providing structured and consistent work within a busy inpatient environment. It is an excellent opportunity for experienced SAS doctors who are confident managing adult mental health presentations and working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality inpatient care.

You will work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists and the wider MDT, contributing to patient assessments, treatment planning, ward reviews, risk management, and discharge planning, while helping to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care.

What You'll Be Doing

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of adult inpatients
• Diagnose and manage a wide range of mental health conditions under the supervision and support of the Consultant Psychiatrist
• Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and care reviews
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans
• Manage patients presenting with acute mental illness, including psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and dual diagnosis presentations
• Undertake risk assessments and contribute to risk management plans
• Support Mental Health Act processes and prepare clinical reports where required
• Liaise with nursing staff, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and community teams to ensure coordinated patient care
• Contribute to discharge planning and continuity of care arrangements
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical records
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities
• Support the teaching and supervision of junior medical colleagues where appropriate
• Uphold the highest standards of patient safety and professional practice

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• At least four years' postgraduate training, including a minimum of two years' experience in Psychiatry
• Significant UK experience within General Adult Psychiatry
• Experience working in inpatient mental health settings
• Section 12 Approval (desirable)
• Experience managing patients with acute and complex mental health presentations
• Strong understanding of the Mental Health Act and inpatient treatment pathways
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent communication, organisational, and clinical decision-making skills
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
