The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry to support a well-established General Adult Mental Health Service in North Wales.
This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 working pattern, providing structured and consistent work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. It is ideally suited to experienced consultants who are confident managing a broad range of adult mental health presentations while providing senior clinical leadership and delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care.
You will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating adults with complex mental health needs, supporting multidisciplinary colleagues, and contributing to the ongoing development of safe, effective, and patient-centred services.

- Provide consultant-level leadership within a General Adult Psychiatry service
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning for adult patients
- Take clinical responsibility for a caseload of patients presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions
- Manage complex presentations including schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and dual diagnosis cases
- Lead multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and care planning discussions
- Undertake comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans
- Work collaboratively with nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
- Liaise with primary care services, crisis teams, community mental health teams, and partner agencies to ensure continuity of care
- Support admission, discharge, and relapse prevention planning to promote positive patient outcomes
- Prepare Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunal hearings where required
- Supervise junior doctors and contribute to teaching, training, and professional development activities
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
- Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, clinical care, and professional practice
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or equivalent qualification (CESR)
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility)
- Section 12 Approval
- Approved Clinician Status (highly desirable)
- Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within General Adult Psychiatry
- Experience managing complex and high-risk mental health presentations
- Strong understanding of secondary care and community mental health pathways
- Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience with Mental Health Act assessments, tribunal reports, and statutory processes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
