The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon to support services at West Midlands.

This long-term locum opportunity, offering consistent weekday work within a busy General Surgery service.

The post includes a varied workload comprising Upper GI and General Surgery, including general surgical services, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, bariatric work, CEPOD lists, on-call commitments, and post-take ward rounds. You will be working alongside established multidisciplinary teams, supporting safe and effective patient care.

Additional Information

• 30-minute unpaid break per 8-hour shift
• Cross-site travel paid at £0.24 per mile when driving
• Public transport expenses subject to prior approval
• Onsite accommodation available from £30 per night, subject to availability
• Alternative accommodation available via the Trust's accommodation partner

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver high-quality Consultant-led care within Upper GI and General Surgery services
• Undertake elective and emergency surgical activity as required
• Participate in on-call rotas, CEPOD lists, and post-take responsibilities
• Support the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of surgical patients
• Work collaboratively with consultants, junior doctors, nursing staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team
• Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with NHS standards
• Contribute to the safe and effective running of surgical services across sites when required

What We're Looking For

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• Entry on the Specialist Register or equivalent experience
• Recent NHS experience at Consultant level within Upper GI/General Surgery
• Strong clinical, communication, and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
