The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry to support a well-established Liaison Psychiatry Service in London.
This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00 working pattern, providing structured and consistent work within a busy acute hospital environment. It is ideally suited to experienced consultants who are confident managing complex psychiatric presentations in patients attending emergency departments, acute medical settings, and inpatient wards.
You will provide senior clinical leadership within the liaison psychiatry team, delivering expert assessments and treatment recommendations while working closely with acute hospital colleagues to ensure integrated, high-quality patient care.

- Provide consultant-level leadership within a Liaison Psychiatry Service
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments for adults presenting within emergency departments, acute medical wards, and outpatient settings
- Take clinical responsibility for patients presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions and complex psychosocial needs
- Manage presentations including depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, delirium, dementia-related conditions, self-harm, and substance misuse
- Undertake urgent mental health assessments and provide timely treatment recommendations to acute hospital teams
- Lead multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and complex case discussions
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop effective risk management plans
- Work collaboratively with emergency medicine, acute medicine, specialist hospital teams, community mental health services, and primary care providers
- Support discharge planning and continuity of care across acute and community services
- Prepare Mental Health Act reports and attend tribunal hearings where required
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to junior doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
- Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, professionalism, and clinical care
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or equivalent qualification (CESR)
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility)
- Section 12 Approval
- Approved Clinician Status (desirable)
- Significant UK experience working at Consultant level within Liaison Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry
- Experience working within acute hospital and emergency care settings
- Experience managing complex mental health presentations, risk, and crisis situations
- Strong understanding of the interface between physical and mental health care
- Experience with Mental Health Act assessments, tribunal reports, and statutory processes
- Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
