The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in North West England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant to join an established Acute Medicine service and provide high-quality clinical care to acutely unwell patients.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of the Trust's acute medical services, including participation in a 1-in-4 weekend commitment.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Acute Medicine services within the Trust.

The role will include:

  • Assessment and management of acutely unwell medical patients
  • Consultant-level clinical decision-making and management
  • Supporting the day-to-day delivery of the Acute Medicine service
  • Reviewing patients and developing appropriate management plans
  • Working collaboratively with emergency, medical and wider multidisciplinary teams
  • Supporting junior medical staff and other clinical colleagues where required
  • Participation in the 1-in-4 weekend rota
  • Providing 1 PA of clinical cover on Saturday and 1 PA on Sunday when undertaking weekend cover
  • Contributing to clinical governance and service improvement activities
  • Maintaining high standards of patient safety and patient-centred care

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Acute Internal Medicine, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Previous NHS Consultant-level Acute Medicine experience
  • Strong experience in the assessment and management of acutely unwell medical patients
  • Ability to work independently within a busy acute hospital environment
  • Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Ability to participate in the required weekend rota

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Acute Medicine department
  • Broad experience across acute and general internal medicine
  • Teaching and supervision experience
  • Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
