The Opportunity
We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hand & Wrist surgery.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Hand & Wrist Consultant to join an established Orthopaedic service and provide specialist outpatient and surgical care.
The role offers a structured clinical workload with no on-call commitments, combining specialist outpatient clinics with elective orthopaedic operating lists and trauma activity.

The Role
The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Trauma & Orthopaedic services with a specialist focus on Hand & Wrist surgery.
The role will include:
- Two half-day specialist Hand & Wrist outpatient clinics per week
- One to two full-day elective Orthopaedic operating lists per week
- One trauma operating list per week
- Assessment and management of Hand & Wrist conditions
- Pre-operative assessment and surgical planning
- Performing appropriate elective and trauma procedures
- Post-operative patient reviews and follow-up
- Working collaboratively with the wider Orthopaedic and multidisciplinary teams
- Supporting the delivery of high-quality patient-centred surgical care
- Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation
- Contributing to clinical governance and service improvement activities
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
- Previous NHS Consultant-level Trauma & Orthopaedic experience
- Specialist experience in Hand & Wrist surgery
- Experience undertaking elective Orthopaedic operating lists
- Experience in Orthopaedic trauma
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
- Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient-centred surgical care
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working within an NHS Orthopaedic department
- Broad experience across Hand & Wrist surgery
- Experience in service development and quality improvement
- Teaching and supervision experience
- Clinical audit or research experience
