The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Neurologist.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Neurologist to join an established Neurology service and support the delivery of outpatient care and waiting-list management.

The role offers a structured Monday to Friday working pattern with no on-call commitments, combining face-to-face outpatient clinics with virtual triage of the existing waiting list.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Neurology services across outpatient clinics and virtual waiting-list triage.

The clinical workload will consist of a blend of:

• Face-to-face Neurology outpatient clinics
• Virtual triage of patients on the existing waiting list
• Typically 4–5 outpatient clinics per week
• Approximately 2–3 virtual triage sessions per week
• Clinics are 4 hours in duration
• New patient appointments are allocated 30 minutes
• Clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of Neurology patients
• Development and review of appropriate treatment plans
• Clinical documentation and correspondence
• Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team
• Supporting effective management of the existing waiting list
• Contributing to clinical governance and service improvement activities

The post includes 7 clinical sessions and 3 administrative sessions per week.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Neurology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
• Previous NHS Consultant Neurology experience
• Strong experience in outpatient Neurology
• Ability to assess and manage Neurology patients independently
• Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills
• Ability to work on-site for the duration of the assignment
• Availability to work Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00

Desirable Requirements

• Experience managing outpatient waiting lists
• Experience with virtual clinical triage
• Previous experience working within an NHS Neurology service
• Teaching and supervision experience
• Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
