The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Histopathologist.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Histopathologist to join an established pathology service on a full-time, on-site basis. The role will focus on reporting general histopathology cases, providing an opportunity to support the Trust's diagnostic service without routine dissection or MDT responsibilities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic pathology services throughout the assignment.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide general Histopathology reporting services as part of the Trust's established pathology team.

The post will primarily involve:

  • Reporting general Histopathology cases
  • Providing timely and accurate diagnostic reports
  • Supporting the day-to-day pathology reporting workload
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues within the pathology department
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical governance and patient safety
  • Contributing to the effective delivery of the Trust's diagnostic pathology service

The role is focused on reporting cases only, with no routine dissection or MDT commitments typically required.

The post does not include screening programmed work.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Histopathology
  • Previous NHS Consultant Histopathology experience
  • Experience reporting general Histopathology cases
  • Ability to work independently within an established pathology service
  • Excellent diagnostic, communication and clinical decision-making skills
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and clinical governance
  • Availability to work on-site Monday to Friday for the duration of the assignment

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS pathology department
  • Broad experience in general Histopathology reporting
  • Experience of service improvement, clinical audit or governance activities
  • Teaching or supervision experience
