The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist to support a service in the West Midlands.

This ongoing locum opportunity offers a structured Monday to Friday job plan within a supportive hospital environment. The role is ideal for an experienced Gastroenterology Consultant seeking a combination of outpatient, endoscopy, and clinical administration responsibilities, with optional ward-based working.

You will work alongside established multidisciplinary teams, helping to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.

Proposed Job Plan

• 4 Outpatient Clinics per week (General Gastroenterology)
• 2 Endoscopy Sessions per week (list type dependent on experience and service demand)
• 3 Clinical Administration Sessions
• 0.5 Session for Advice & Guidance / E-Triage

Optional Ward Commitment

Ward-based work is available for interested candidates on a 1 in 7 week rota. During ward weeks, all routine clinic and endoscopy activity is suspended.

Ward responsibilities include:

• Seven-day cover (Monday to Sunday)
• Compensatory day off provided on Monday
• Participation in inpatient Gastroenterology care and multidisciplinary ward management

There is flexibility within the overall job plan, which can be discussed with suitable candidates.

What You'll Be Doing

• Deliver high-quality Gastroenterology care within outpatient and endoscopy settings
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions
• Undertake endoscopic procedures in line with competency and service requirements
• Provide specialist advice and guidance through e-triage pathways
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams, endoscopy staff, and wider MDT colleagues
• Contribute to safe, effective, and patient-centred service delivery

What We're Looking For

• Active GMC registration
• Consultant-level Gastroenterology experience
• Relevant recent NHS experience within the UK
• Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
