The Opportunity
We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Upper Limb surgery.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Upper Limb Consultant to join an established Orthopaedic service and provide specialist outpatient, surgical and trauma care.
The role offers a varied clinical workload across specialist outpatient clinics, elective orthopaedic operating lists and trauma activity, as part of a full rota including on-call commitments.

The Role
The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Trauma & Orthopaedic services with a specialist focus on Upper Limb surgery.
The role will include:
- Providing Consultant-level Upper Limb Orthopaedic care
- Assessment and management of Upper Limb conditions
- Pre-operative assessment and surgical planning
- Performing appropriate elective and trauma procedures
- Supporting elective Orthopaedic operating lists
- Participating in trauma activity
- Undertaking outpatient clinics and patient assessments
- Participating in the full rota, including on-call commitments
- Post-operative patient reviews and follow-up
- Working collaboratively with the wider Orthopaedic and multidisciplinary teams
- Supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred surgical care
- Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation
- Contributing to clinical governance and service improvement activities
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
- Previous NHS Consultant-level Trauma & Orthopaedic experience
- Specialist experience in Upper Limb surgery
- Experience undertaking elective Orthopaedic operating lists
- Experience in Orthopaedic trauma
- Experience participating in Consultant on-call rotas
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
- Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient-centred surgical care
- Availability to participate in the full rota, including on-call commitments
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working within an NHS Orthopaedic department
- Broad experience across Upper Limb surgery
- Experience in service development and quality improvement
- Teaching and supervision experience
- Clinical audit or research experience
