The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in Lung Oncology.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join an established oncology service and provide specialist cancer care to patients with lung malignancies.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the Trust's Clinical Oncology department, contributing to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients throughout the assignment.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Clinical Oncology services, specialising in the management of Lung malignancies.

The role will include:

  • Providing specialist Consultant-level Clinical Oncology care
  • Assessment and management of patients with lung cancer
  • Developing and overseeing appropriate oncology treatment plans
  • Delivering and supervising appropriate radiotherapy treatment
  • Reviewing patients in specialist outpatient oncology clinics
  • Providing inpatient oncology care where required
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary lung cancer team meetings and treatment planning
  • Working collaboratively with respiratory physicians, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and wider multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred cancer care
  • Monitoring treatment response and managing treatment-related complications
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Contributing to clinical governance, audit and service improvement activities
  • Supporting junior doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues where required

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Oncology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Previous NHS Consultant-level Clinical Oncology experience
  • Specialist experience in the management of Lung malignancies
  • Strong clinical experience in radiotherapy and clinical oncology
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication, leadership and clinical decision-making skills
  • Commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred cancer care

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Clinical Oncology department
  • Broad experience across Lung Oncology
  • Experience of multidisciplinary lung cancer team working
  • Experience in service development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Teaching and supervision experience
  • Clinical audit or research experience
