The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust in the East of England with the appointment of a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Oculoplastics.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist Oculoplastics experience to join an established NHS Ophthalmology service and provide high-quality specialist ophthalmic care.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting the Trust's Ophthalmology service and contributing to the delivery of safe, efficient and patient-centred care.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Ophthalmology services, specialising in Oculoplastics, within the Trust.

The role will include:

  • Providing Consultant-level Ophthalmology and Oculoplastics services
  • Assessing and managing patients with ophthalmic and oculoplastic conditions
  • Providing specialist clinical advice and treatment planning
  • Supporting the day-to-day delivery of the Ophthalmology service
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary working and clinical discussions
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Supporting patient-centred ophthalmic care pathways
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical governance and patient safety
  • Contributing to service improvement activities where required
  • Supporting junior medical staff and colleagues where appropriate

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Ophthalmology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Previous NHS Consultant Ophthalmologist experience
  • Specialist experience in Oculoplastics
  • Strong clinical experience within Ophthalmology
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and communication skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred ophthalmic care
  • Availability to work Monday – Friday

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Ophthalmology department
  • Broad experience across Ophthalmology
  • Additional specialist Oculoplastics experience
  • Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
  • Teaching and supervision experience
