The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Consultant Paediatrician to join our growing Medico-Legal Panel.

We have an immediate requirement for an independent expert to prepare a Clinical Negligence Screening Breach of Duty & Causation Report.

The instruction relates to the assessment, recognition and management of suspected meningitis and encephalitis in a young child, including the timely investigation, diagnosis and treatment of an evolving neurological presentation. The successful expert will review approximately 143 pages of medical records and provide an independent opinion regarding the standard of paediatric care, breach of duty and causation. Confidential case details will only be shared following an initial suitability assessment and conflict check.

This is a flexible, case-based opportunity that can be undertaken alongside your existing NHS and/or independent clinical practice.

What You'll Be Doing

• Review medical records, chronology and supporting documentation.
• Assess the recognition, investigation and management of suspected meningitis and encephalitis.
• Produce a clear, structured Screening Breach of Duty & Causation Report within your field of expertise.
• Provide an independent opinion regarding the standard of paediatric care, the timeliness of investigations, clinical decision-making and whether any alleged delays materially affected the claimant's outcome.
• Address the specific questions set out by the instructing party.
• Clearly distinguish factual history from independent clinical opinion and identify any evidential limitations.
• Manage deadlines, confidentiality and documentation in accordance with medico-legal standards.
• Participate in supplementary reports, clarification requests, conferences or Court attendance where required.

What We're Looking For

• Consultant Paediatrician with active GMC registration and licence to practise.
• Must be permanently based within the United Kingdom.
• Must be currently practising within the NHS and/or UK independent healthcare sector.
• Demonstrable current, direct clinical experience in General Paediatrics, including:
• Acute paediatric assessment.
• Recognition and management of meningitis and encephalitis.
• Emergency paediatric presentations.
• Investigation and management of seriously unwell children.
• Paediatric neurological presentations.
• Experience in Paediatric Infectious Diseases is advantageous but not essential.
• Previous medico-legal report writing and Expert Witness experience is required.
• Formal Expert Witness and/or Medico-Legal training is required.
• Ability to provide objective, independent clinical opinion within your field of expertise.
• Ability to identify and declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest prior to accepting instructions.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship).
