The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology to support a Retina Service within a Wales NHS Trust.
This locum opportunity is available on a Direct Engagement basis and is ideal for candidates with strong experience in retina clinics, retinal laser procedures, and Wet AMD services. The role offers a structured workload across injection clinics, laser sessions, and extended eye care clinics, working alongside established ophthalmology teams to deliver high-quality patient care.
Please note: We are specifically seeking candidates with substantial experience in retina clinics and retinal laser procedures in addition to AMD injections. Candidates with AMD injection experience alone may not be suitable for this role.

What You'll Be Doing
- Support the Wet AMD Injection Service
- Undertake approximately 4 injection sessions per week
- Deliver approximately 3 retinal laser sessions per week
- Participate in approximately 2 Extended Eye Care Clinic (EEC) sessions per week
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients attending retina clinics
- Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams, optometrists, and wider multidisciplinary teams
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards
- Contribute to the safe and effective delivery of ophthalmology services
What We're Looking For
- Active GMC registration
- Recent NHS Ophthalmology experience
- Strong experience in Retina Clinics
- Proven competency in Retinal Laser Procedures
- Experience delivering Wet AMD services
- Experience administering Intravitreal AMD Injections
- Excellent clinical judgement, communication, and professionalism
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
