The Opportunity

We are supporting an NHS Trust with the appointment of a Locum Consultant in Clinical Oncology with a specialist interest in Lung Cancer.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join an established oncology service and provide high-quality specialist care to patients with lung cancer.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary oncology team, contributing to the delivery of safe and effective cancer services throughout the assignment.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide Consultant-level Clinical Oncology services, with a specialist focus on lung cancer.

The role will include:

  • Assessment and management of patients with lung cancer and related malignancies
  • Providing Consultant-level clinical decision-making and specialist oncology advice
  • Reviewing new and follow-up oncology patients
  • Developing and overseeing individualised treatment plans
  • Providing specialist input into radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatment as appropriate
  • Working closely with the Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)
  • Supporting the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based cancer care
  • Working collaboratively with medical, nursing, radiography and wider multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Supporting junior medical staff and colleagues where required
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation
  • Contributing to clinical governance, audit and service improvement activities
  • Ensuring safe, high-quality and patient-centred care

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Oncology, or relevant experience for a locum appointment
  • Previous NHS Consultant-level Clinical Oncology experience
  • Specialist experience in the management of lung cancer
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary oncology environment
  • Broad knowledge of contemporary lung cancer treatment and management
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within an NHS Clinical Oncology department
  • Experience across a broad range of thoracic malignancies
  • Experience in radiotherapy planning and delivery
  • Teaching and supervision experience
  • Experience in clinical audit, governance or service improvement
