The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Locum Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to support a general adult inpatient mental health service in the East of England.
This opportunity offers a full-time locum contract with a Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00 structure, providing consistent and structured work within a general adult inpatient setting. It is well suited to experienced consultants who are confident leading clinical teams, managing complex cases, and maintaining high standards of care within a busy ward environment.
You will take a senior leadership role within the multidisciplinary team, overseeing clinical decision-making, supporting junior doctors, and ensuring safe, effective patient care across the service.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide consultant-level leadership and oversight within a general adult inpatient setting
- Deliver high-quality psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning
- Take clinical responsibility for patients on the ward, including complex cases
- Lead ward rounds and contribute to effective patient flow and discharge planning
- Prepare and present Mental Health Act Tribunal reports and attend hearings
- Supervise and support junior medical staff and contribute to their development
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff, AHPs, and the wider MDT
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation
- Uphold high standards of patient safety, governance, and clinical practice
What We’re Looking For
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or equivalent (CESR)
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (or eligibility)
- Section 12 approval
- Approved Clinician status (desirable but highly advantageous)
- Extensive UK experience within general adult inpatient psychiatry
- Proven ability to work at consultant level within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience managing MHA Tribunals
- Strong leadership, clinical judgement, and communication skills
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
