Making a difference through effective school travel coordination

As a Travel Coordination Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring that school transport eligibility applications are assessed accurately, fairly, and in accordance with Council policies and statutory guidance. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will review applications, interpret regulations, and provide clear decisions while delivering a high standard of customer service to schools, colleagues, families, and members of the public.

What will you be doing?

As a Travel Coordination Officer, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people to access education by assessing school transport eligibility applications and ensuring decisions are made fairly, accurately, and in line with policy and legislation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assess and review school transport eligibility applications in accordance with Council policies and statutory guidance.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, and eligibility criteria to make accurate and consistent decisions.
  • Communicate eligibility decisions clearly and professionally to parents, schools, Council officers, and other stakeholders.
  • Respond to enquiries regarding school transport applications, policies, and decisions, providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure data is updated and managed in line with information governance requirements.
  • Liaise with internal teams, schools, and external partners to gather information and resolve queries.
  • Support the review and appeals process by preparing information and evidence where required.
  • Monitor workloads and manage competing priorities to ensure service standards and deadlines are met.
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes and customer experience.
  • Work collaboratively within the team to deliver a high-quality, efficient, and customer-focused service.

About you

  • 5 GCSEs Including maths and English or equivalent experience
  • Good levels of spoken and written English to facilitate communication with a wide variety of stakeholders. Ability to adhere to legislation and relay (in writing and verbally) eligibility issues in plain English.
  • Confident analysing transport issues and offering sound, reliable travel solutions. High attention to detail Able to effectively utilise MS desktop applications. Experience of using a sophisticated databases administration systems package and associated reporting tools. Innovative approach to the exploitation of IT

  • Initiative and ability to plan and organise time to ensure that deadlines and agreed targets are met

  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy working in a pressurised environment

  • Ability to demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs.

  • Good team worker with the ability to work as part of a team and support others in delivery team success

  • Ability to maintain high levels of performance under challenging conditions, tasks, responsibilities or people
