About the Service and Team
The Leadership Office works across every single council service area, meaning no two days are the same. You will support operations and projects that make a real difference to Sutton’s residents.About the Role and Our Ideal Candidate
This junior role with Sutton Council’s Communications, Engagement and Public Affairs Team will give you the knowledge and skills needed to begin an exciting career in local government administration, communications or public affairs.
You’ll play an important role in our busy and supportive team, helping to coordinate the day-to-day logistics of an office, managing and responding to incoming correspondence to ensure the Council speaks with one voice, seeks out and listens to all opinions and concerns of local residents, businesses and partners.
The role includes:
- Greeting guests and managing meeting arrangements.
- Building strong and resilient professional relationships with internal and external partners.
- Managing secure Google Suite drives for correspondence, photographs, and media assets.
- Drafting and scheduling creative social media posts for the Leader of the Council.
- Helping compile data and tracking responses for council meetings.
- Gathering updates to build and format the weekly information bulletin sent to all councillors.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is interested in local government and in developing their executive administration and public sector communications skills.
- Is highly organised, with a proven ability to manage multiple meeting calendars and keep track of conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrates a high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in data entry, proofreading, and logging information.
- Is a proactive self-starter, able to work independently, and politely but firmly chase senior officers for information.
- Demonstrates good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Is flexible, adaptable to different ways of working, and committed to their own personal and professional development.
- Is able to work from the Civic Offices in the London Borough of Sutton.
