Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Data Analyst with strong Power BI development capability to join our team and help deliver high-quality reporting and analytics within our software products.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business to translate requirements into robust reporting solutions, assess available datasets, and build accurate, scalable, and visually effective reports in Power BI. The role requires someone who can work across the full reporting lifecycle: understanding business requirements, shaping and validating data, developing semantic models, implementing complex calculations, and ensuring outputs are accurate, secure, and fit for use.

This role is well suited to someone with strong hands-on Power BI expertise who can combine analytical thinking, data modelling, SQL, governance awareness, and excellent attention to detail.

Accuracy, consistency, data quality, and strong QA discipline are essential, as reports and datasets will support business-critical decision-making and user-facing product functionality.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards in line with agreed business requirements, wireframes, reporting definitions, and user needs.
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI datasets / semantic models for enterprise reporting and analytics use cases.
  • Translate business requirements into clear reporting logic, clarifying metric definitions, filters, calculations, data assumptions, and access requirements with stakeholders.
  • Review available datasets and determine the best approach to support reporting needs, including:
    • Creating new datasets or semantic models where required
    • Transforming and cleansing data using Power Query (M)
    • Working with curated, warehouse, lakehouse, or reporting-ready data layers, such as a Silver layer or equivalent
    • Building clean, reusable, and scalable data models suitable for both governed reporting and self-service analytics
  • Develop and maintain complex DAX measures, including KPI calculations, time intelligence, segmentation, exception logic, and multi-table calculations.
  • Use SQL to interrogate structured data sources, including relational databases, and amend queries to ensure datasets are fit for reporting purposes.
  • Ensure datasets are fully consumable by report builders and users, with well-structured schemas, clear relationships, intuitive measures, and a strong usability focus.
  • Implement and maintain Row-Level Security (RLS) to support role-based data access.
  • Configure and manage secure access to datasets and reports, including workspace roles, permissions, sharing models, and governance controls.
  • Apply strong data governance principles, including data classification, lineage, access control, and appropriate handling of sensitive data.
  • Perform robust QA and validation of reports and datasets, including reconciliation to source data, metric checks, edge-case testing, and consistency checks across visuals, pages, and semantic models.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, data, and business stakeholders to ensure reports work effectively within a Power BI Embedded or product-based reporting environment.
  • Document assumptions, measure logic, dataset structures, data transformations, access controls, and QA outcomes to support maintainability and future development.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in reporting standards, data quality, semantic model design, governance, and analytical best practice.

Qualifications

Required skills and experience

  • Current SC clearance, or eligibility to obtain SC clearance.
  • Strong hands-on Power BI experience, including report development, data modelling, DAX, Power Query, and performance optimisation.
  • Proven experience building enterprise Power BI datasets and semantic models.
  • Advanced DAX capability, including complex measures, KPI development, and calculation validation.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional data modelling, relationships, data grain, and scalable semantic model design.
  • Experience creating governed, reusable datasets that support reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Strong SQL skills, with experience querying and analysing data from relational databases.
  • Experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and managing secure access and permissions within Power BI.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage,
