About the RoleAre you an experienced Learning Mentor looking for a rewarding role in Plymouth?
We are recruiting a dedicated mentor to join an Alternative Provision supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The primary goal of this role is youth re-engagement-helping vulnerable students build confidence, access functional learning, and transition back into structured education.
This role is based onsite at the provision, with scheduled community learning days throughout the week where you will support students with hands-on, real-world educational activities outside the classroom.
Key ResponsibilitiesSEMH Support: Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group academic and emotional support to young people facing barriers to education.
Educational Re-Engagement: Build trusted relationships to restore confidence, resilience, and engagement in learning.
Community Learning Days: Accompany and mentor students during off-site community activities to foster social and functional life skills.
Core Skill Building: Utilise your knowledge of GCSE English and Maths to support functional literacy and numeracy development.
Behavioural Management: Apply restorative approaches and de-escalation strategies to manage complex SEMH needs.
SEMH Experience: Demonstrable experience working with young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, challenging behaviour, or SEN.
Academic Qualifications: GCSE Grade C/4+ (or equivalent) in both English and Maths is required.
Full Driving License: A valid UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle is essential for community learning transport.
DBS: An enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
Standard School Schedule: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday (No weekend or evening work).
Competitive Daily Rate: £92.56 to £95.00 per day depending on experience.
Stability: Long-term continuous placement within a supportive education environment.
