Data EngineerContract: 6 months initially, with potential extensionRate: £450–£460 per dayIR35: Inside IR35Location: London – 3 days per week on-siteStart: ASAPWe are looking for two experienced Data Engineers to join a major data transformation and cloud modernisation programme within a complex, highly regulated environment.This is a hands-on engineering role suited to strong developers who enjoy building scalable data solutions and working across large enterprise technology estates. You will play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, supporting the migration of legacy data assets to modern cloud platforms, and delivering high-quality enterprise data solutions.This role is focused on hands-on development and delivery, rather than architecture or people management.The RoleAs a Data Engineer, you will work closely with architects, analysts, business stakeholders and delivery teams to design and build robust data solutions.Key responsibilities will include:Designing, building and optimising scalable ETL/ELT data pipelinesDeveloping and maintaining data solutions using Databricks, Python and SQLSupporting the migration of data assets from legacy platforms into modern cloud-based architecturesIntegrating data from multiple enterprise systems, including Oracle databasesBuilding reusable data engineering frameworks and improving development best practicesEnsuring high standards of data quality, integrity, security and performanceTroubleshooting production issues and implementing sustainable solutionsTranslating business and technical requirements into robust engineering solutionsProducing clear technical documentation and supporting knowledge transferContributing to the ongoing development and improvement of a modern enterprise data platformWhat We're Looking ForWe are looking for candidates with strong commercial Data Engineering experience gained within large-scale or complex enterprise environments.Essential SkillsStrong commercial experience as a Data EngineerHands-on experience with DatabricksAdvanced SQL development skillsStrong Python development experienceExtensive experience working with Oracle databasesProven experience designing, building and supporting data pipelines and integration solutionsExperience working with cloud-based data platformsGood understanding of data modelling, performance optimisation and data quality controlsExperience across the full software development lifecycleAbility to work independently and take ownership of technical deliveryStrong problem-solving and stakeholder communication skillsDesirable ExperienceBanking or wider Financial Services experienceExperience working within highly regulated environmentsExposure to Azure Data Platform servicesExperience with CI/CD and DevOps practices within Data EngineeringPrevious involvement in cloud migration or data modernisation programmesUnderstanding of data governance and data lineage principlesThe Ideal CandidateThis role would suit a hands-on Data Engineer with around 5+ years of experience who is comfortable working within a complex enterprise environment.You should be a strong developer first and foremost, with the ability to quickly understand requirements and translate them into scalable, reliable technical solutions.This is an excellent opportunity to join a significant data transformation programme and work with modern technologies including Databricks, Python, SQL, Oracle and cloud-based data platforms.Please note: This is a London-based hybrid role requiring 3 days per week on-site.
