Tech lead

**Tech Lead (Backend) - Agency Applications | 12-Month Contract (Renewable)**
We are looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to join a group-level digital transformation project focused on insurance agency applications. The solution will be implemented across multiple countries in Asia. This is a balanced role - approximately 50% hands-on coding and 50% technical leadership & stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities
**Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Management**- Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs for agency applications- Drive technical solutioning and architecture decisions in collaboration with business, product, and other technology stakeholders across markets- Define and enforce backend architecture standards, coding standards, and development best practices- Conduct design reviews, code reviews, and provide technical mentoring to the development team- Identify and mitigate technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities- Act as the technical point of contact, managing expectations and communicating progress clearly with regional stakeholders
**Hands-on Development**- Design and develop enterprise-grade applications using Java technologies- Build and maintain microservices-based architectures supporting insurance agency business processes- Design RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations with internal and external systems- Optimize application performance and database operations for large-scale transaction processing- Ensure solutions meet scalability, reliability, security, and regulatory compliance requirements across markets
**Database & Integration**- Design and manage MongoDB data models, collections, indexing strategies, and performance tuning- Integrate with policy administration systems, CRM platforms, payment gateways, customer portals, and third-party insurance services

Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with Java enterprise applications- 3+ years of experience in a Technical Lead or Team Lead capacity- Strong hands-on experience with **Java** and **MongoDB**- Proven project experience in the **Insurance** industry (digital transformation or agency digital projects highly preferred)- Experience delivering large-scale backend systems in regulated environments- Strong experience working in Agile/Scrum environments- Solid stakeholder management skills - able to work effectively with business and technology teams across regions- Fluent English communication skills (spoken and written); Cantonese is a strong advantage

Contract Details- 12-month contract, renewable- Hybrid working arrangement
