This involves the design, analysis, procurement, and integration of electrical power systems — ranging from the main generator and grid connection, through the in-plant distribution system, down to end-use loads.

Essential Responsibilities

  • System Architecture — Lead the design and integration of SC1/Class 1E (safety-related), SC2, and SC3 electrical systems, including Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) distribution.
  • Analysis & Modeling — Perform complex electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, and protective relay coordination using ETAP software, applying ANSI/IEC standards.
  • Engineering Deliverables — Prepare deliverables including Requirements Specifications, Electrical Load Lists, One-Lines, Calculations, Schematics, and 3-Line drawings. Ensure deliverables are on-spec, on-budget, and on-schedule.
  • Equipment Specification — Develop detailed procurement specifications for major components (main transformers, switchgear, diesel generators, UPS systems) and collaborate with suppliers.
  • Regulatory Compliance — Navigate regulatory requirements (CA-CNSC and US-NRC), support licensing processes, and ensure all designs meet nuclear-specific standards.
  • Grid Integration — Interface with transmission providers to manage Generator Interconnection Agreements and ensure grid stability compliance.
  • Codes & Standards — Apply codes and standards for electrical systems design in the US, Canada, and EU (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CSA, NEC).

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Licensure: Professional Engineering License — US (PE), Canada (PEng), or equivalent international

  • Software: Strong PC and productivity software skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio)

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Ability to independently design/draft finished products using AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Experience with modern digital engineering collaboration and design tools, such as:
    • Hexagon Smart Electrical (SPEL)
    • Content creation (Confluence/Atlassian)
    • Requirements management (DOORS-NextGen/IBM, MS Team Center)
    • Diagram/drawing (Visio, AutoCAD)
    • Design & analysis simulation (Easy5, Simulink/MATLAB, Mathcad, 3KeyMaster, ETAP, SKM)
    • Change/configuration/document/BOM management (ENOVIA/Dassault Systèmes)
  • Strong Protection and Control experience
  • Experience with Grid Interface
  • Experience with Generator and Large Power Transformer Protection
  • Programming and setting GE-Multilin and SEL Relays
