About the role

£45,000 – £60,000 DOE | Office based, with site attendance across London | Free parking

An established North London multidisciplinary consultancy — architectural design, structural engineering, Building Regulations and party wall matters under one roof — is looking for an ARB-registered Senior Architect to take real ownership of projects.

This is not a portfolio-only hire. The practice needs an architect who can make confident technical decisions and carry a project from brief and feasibility through planning, Building Regulations, technical design and construction — with direct client contact throughout, and the structural team sitting alongside rather than at the end of an email chain.

The work

A varied, residential-led workload with commercial and mixed-use alongside it:

  • Residential extensions, refurbishments and loft conversions
  • HMO conversions and internal reconfigurations
  • Complex structural alterations
  • Commercial properties and mixed-use developments
  • New-build projects
  • Planning and Building Regulations applications
  • Detailed technical and construction design

What you will do

  • Lead projects from feasibility through planning, Building Regulations, detailed design and construction
  • Develop practical, buildable architectural solutions that balance design, compliance and commercial requirements
  • Prepare and manage planning and Building Regulations submissions
  • Produce and review high-quality architectural drawings in AutoCAD — plans, sections, elevations, construction details and full technical packages
  • Coordinate architectural information directly with structural designs and calculations
  • Deal confidently with Building Control, including technical comments and design amendments
  • Lead client discussions, design reviews and technical meetings
  • Liaise with structural engineers, consultants and contractors, and attend site inspections
  • Identify design, regulatory and construction risks before they become problems
  • Check work produced by developing team members and mentor Part I and Part II Architectural Assistants
  • Help shape the practice technical standards and project-delivery processes

What you need — essential

  • Current Architects Registration Board (ARB) registration
  • Typically 5+ years of UK architectural practice experience with demonstrable project responsibility
  • Proven experience personally leading and delivering projects
  • Advanced professional AutoCAD capability — this practice draws in AutoCAD and this one is non-negotiable
  • Strong experience producing detailed Building Regulations and technical drawing packages
  • Excellent knowledge of UK Building Regulations, planning requirements and construction methods
  • Experience dealing directly with Building Control
  • Strong residential experience — extensions, lofts, refurbishments, structural alterations and conversions
  • Ability to interpret and coordinate structural engineering information
  • Confident communication with clients, contractors and consultants
  • Ability to run several live projects at once and make sound technical decisions without continual supervision

Helpful, not essential

  • Commercial and mixed-use project experience
  • HMO and complex residential conversion experience
  • RIBA Chartered Membership
  • Experience within a multidisciplinary architecture and structural engineering consultancy
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or checking the work of others

Why this one is worth a look

Architects and structural engineers work in the same practice, on the same projects. Coordination happens in a conversation rather than a fee variation, and technical questions get answered the same day. You get genuine autonomy over your own portfolio, exposure across the full project lifecycle, direct client and contractor involvement, and a real say in how the architectural team works. There is scope to mentor and to progress.

Location and package

Hendon, North London. Office based, with site attendance across London and the surrounding area as required. £45,000 – £60,000 depending on experience, plus free parking. Full package details available on application.

How to apply
